Do you only wear your treasured diamond jewelry and other precious gem stones on special occasions because you’re worried that wearing them more frequently may require regular cleanings – and those cleanings may very well damage them?

Well, we have some good news! You can pull out those precious baubles more often because cleaning them will actually not damage them all provided you do it properly. It is much easier than you think.

Whether you wear your glittery diamond jewellery treasures every single day or only on special occasions, it does not require too much effort to ensure that they possess the same sparkle they once did when you first acquired them. A regular cleaning schedule is easy to implement.

How Do I Clean My Diamond Jewellery?

Let’s break down the entire diamond jewelry cycle from storage to cleaning, shall we?

Storage

Proper diamond jewellery care starts with storing your pieces carefully and thoughtfully. Be careful not to allow your diamond jewelry pieces to come into contact with each other as they may scratch one another. This can be achieved by storing your diamond jewellery pieces inside cloth fabric pouches, in tissue paper, or in separated fabric lined compartments in a jewellery box.

Handling

When handling your diamond jewellery pieces, never pick them up by the gemstone and make sure to always clean your hands first as the oils in your skin can affect how your diamond jewellery pieces will reflect light.

Cleaning

For really “baked on” dirt and grime, we recommend using an ultrasonic cleaner. You can pick one up that’s relatively cheap or you can always send your jewellery off to a local jeweler to have them clean your diamond jewellery using an ultrasonic cleaner. Ultrasonic cleaners work really great on complex and detailed jewellery such as modern classic diamond stud earrings.

However, if you can regularly clean your diamond jewellery pieces, you should not require the use of one.

First you will need a cleaning solution. We recommend an ammonia-based solution such as a window cleaner, however many people are also quite happy using isopropyl rubbing alcohol. Depending on the level of grime you have accumulated on your diamond ring jewellery, you may want to consider soaking your pieces overnight.

In addition to that, you will also need a small light bristle brush, much like one that you apply face makeup with and a little bit of facial tissue.

Once you have given your diamond jewellery a little soak (or a long soak), work around the edges of its finer details with your brush and occasionally dry it off with your tissue. Repeat as desired.

I bet you thought this was going to be difficult. Have any other suggestions of how one might clean their diamond jewellery pieces? Let us know in the comments!
